The boys' and girls’ wrestling teams took home three state qualifiers from the boys, and two from the girls. The two girls who made it to state were junior Rylee Dare (145lb) and freshman Brianna Bodine (100lb). The boys who made it were senior Steven Buddemeyer (142lb), junior Cael Walker (190lb), and freshman Bo Buddemeyer (138lb). The boys competed at a more challenging district than last year at Buffalo, while the girls competed at Mexico.
Bodine finished up as a district runner-up, while Dare finished in third. The team had an amazing showing, with everyone winning a match and finishing eleventh out of 38 with only seven girls.
Buddemeyer lost to the third-ranked kid in the state in the semifinals, finishing in second. Bo Buddemeyer finished in third with a great performance as a freshman.
Cael battled his way through the bracket after losing his first-round match on Friday. He pinned the second-ranked kid in the state during the blood round, punching his ticket into State. The team finished in eighth place in the toughest and deepest district in Class 2.
