The Art Club on Oct. 10 took a trip to Pin Oak Farms, a pumpkin patch in New Haven, for a plein air field trip. Plein air is the practice of creating art outdoors, capturing nature in the moment.
The group experienced a little rain delay and set up in the barn for a small session while waiting for the rain to stop. The artists made beautiful pieces of the fireplace and the different things in the barn.
“The day started with a rainstorm and confined us inside the barn. But that’s plein air. Working with the elements and creating outside with everything, sometimes working against you. They had 1 hour to capture what was in front of them. They did a wonderful job capturing the mood and scenery!” said Mrs. Jessie Bayless, Art Club sponsor.
Once the rain stopped, students took a hayride around the farm to find a good spot to work. A small group went to a cabin that was on the farm, and the rest set up in the pumpkin patch.
“It was a beautiful day for painting. The pumpkin patch was beautiful, and after the rain, the weather was amazing,” said Eli Shields.
After the artists were done, they took pictures and went to a Mexican Restaurant for lunch before they headed back to school.
The students who attended were seniors Lorelai McDaniel, Emily Hilburn, Anna Carlin, Lexis Manning, Eli Shields, and Aiyana Kluba. Juniors Jayden Hubbard and Granite Miles, and Sophomores Baylee Tumbrink, Brenna Persley, Destiny Steele, Bradley Lewis, and Mason McDaniel.
