Club Day: getting started again

Posted

As we get back into the swing of things here at Owenville High School, one of the best aspects of school life comes to shine: our clubs.

Whether our clubs have returning members, brand-new members looking to find their niche in our high school, or just a place to have fun, there is something for everyone.

We interviewed one of the students at a club booth, a long-time member of our Scholar Bowl team, Elliott Cooper, and we asked him about their membership status.

“Considering there were only three people last year and they all returned, yeah, I'd say it's a lot,” said Cooper.

This does not account for brand new arrivals to their club. But it shows that those people who joined this club last year enjoyed joining this club once again. Another question we asked this Scholar Bowl member during our talk with them was about their prospects for having more people join them than last year.

“If we get enough people, we may have two teams, which would be the first in a long time” said Cooper.

This is an exciting prospect for the club. In addition to all the other clubs this year, whose membership has also increased, this serves as an example of how our extracurriculars give purpose and fun activities to our students, due to increased membership.

Finally, we asked Elloitt about any other hopes they had for this school year’s club activities.

“I look forward to having a lot of fun with our new team,” said Elloitt

We also interviewed Marik McBride, junior, who partakes in BETA Club. What do you look forward to most in this club this year?

“Probably most look forward to BETA convention this year because it was really fun last year,” McBride said.

We also interviewed Sophia Strebeck, who is in Art Club, about what experience she has gained from this club when she took it in the past.

“In Art Club, I have been better at working on one art piece with multiple people working on that project,” Strebeck said.

To top our interview off, we asked Bradley Mounce if they do Robotics for fun or experience in tech? Or a mix of the two?

“I think Robotics is a relatively fun club that helps with problem solving and overall is one of the coolest clubs at OHS.” Mounce said

Everyone who participates in clubs at Owensville High School look forward to our activities this year, as do the students and teachers who sponsor and help run each club and organization.

This will be a great year for all of the ongoing activities, traditional and new.
