NHS Stock the Shelves For Helping Hands

Posted

The National Honour Society (NHS) is a club dedicated to helping and serving others. Each year, the NHS hosts a schoolwide food drive at Owensville High School, and this year is no exception. All 5th-hour classes compete to collect the most items by Nov. 21. The average number of goods donated by students will determine the winner, not the total amount brought by the whole class.

The food is then delivered to Helping Hands, where it is delivered to families and those in need. Incentives are offered to encourage participation: first place earns a trip to the bowling alley, second place receives pizza and soda, and third place gets popcorn and soda.

Hannah Gehlert, the president of NHS, said, “NHS is about serving, and it is a great opportunity for us to help serve our community! As the Bible says, ‘For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in’ Matthew 23:37.”

A total of 1,551 food items were brought in from all the classes, with Mrs Henneke's class being the winner, bringing in 1,041. In second place, Mrs Aubuchon's class brought in 347. For third place, Mr Kopplemann’s class brought in 21 items.
