OHS Drama Club attends State Thespian Conference

Posted

Owensville High School’s (OHS) drama troupe traveled to Union Station from Jan. 7-10 for one of its most exciting trips yet, as students attended the Thespian Conference, also known as ThesCon. The multi-day event allowed the drama team to experience live theater, participate in workshops and compete against other schools from across the state.

During the trip, students watched three main stage performances, including “Little Women,” “The Children's Hour,” and “Middletown.” Each production showcased a different style of theater and gave students a chance to learn by observing other high school performances.

In addition to the shows, troupe members had access to a wide variety of workshops that focused on acting, technical theater and other performance skills. One highlight of the conference was the guest speaker, Josh Routh, a professional circus performer and magician, who inspired students with his message and insight into the theater world.

Several group members also took part in competitive events. Three students competed in thespies,  which are competitions only inducted thespians can be in, while three groups represented the school in a tech design challenge, testing their creativity and teamwork.

Overall, the thespian conference was a memorable experience for the OHS Drama Club. The trip allowed students to grow as performers, connect with others who share their passion for theater, and return home with new inspiration and excitement for the stage.
