Dozens of high school vocalists came together on Sept. 20 and auditioned for a district choir. For students at our school, it was not only a chance to test their musical skills, but also to join a community with a passion for the arts.
Senior Eli Shields has been a familiar face at District Choir auditions.
“This is my fourth year competing,” he shared. “I was hoping to get into the Honor Choir for the fourth year in a row. I had a lot of fun seeing others' first experience with District Choir, and I was very surprised to see how many people got into the choir this year from our school.”
Kaitlyn Lange told us about her audition process.
“In the audition room, there’s no talking other than to ask your number and what song you’re singing,” she said. “You sing your song, thank the judges, and then head to the sightreading room.” There, students are tested on their ability to read music on the spot. “You name two key signatures and sing two lines of music, one solo, and one with recorded parts,” Kaitlyn explained.
As the selected students prepare for their concert performance later this season, they carry with them not just their voices but the pride of our community, cheering them on.
